Question for VFC 416 users

Postby Goliath17 » Fri Aug 30, 2013 10:33 pm

I know that the VFC 416 has a very picky magwell, but I didn't know it was THIS picky! Before I bought it, I was under the understanding that it wouldn't accept p-mags or any mags with grooves around the mags and that they do accept normal STANAG mags, so I bought 10 Elite force 140rd mid-caps (http://www.evike.com/product_info.php?products_id=39413) and they are extremely frustrating to get in and take more than one try to get in. Any of you have any experience with this gun and mags that actually fit in and can go in on the first try? I'm just extremely frustrated.
This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me my rifle is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless.

When I had mine, I used King Arms plastic mid caps. They fit well for me.

I also use the Elite Force 140's and have no issues with them fitting or feeding in my VFC 416c. The only issues I have had are with Pmags and other similar-style mags such as the CAA polymer mags. The do not seem to fit properly, being too big or oddly shaped. This could be the magwell as I am told that the 416 magwell is slightly different than a standard M4 .

irl the hk416 has a different magwell than the ar15/m4 etc. for instance pmags for my ar15 dont work in the hk416 but magpul did make the E-mag later on which is designed to fit both platforms and i believe the new gen 3 mags are all redesigned to fit both as well. my point is that the 416 has different mag well dimensions for sure. ...irl

If you look at a 416 and an M4 side by side, you'll see the front of the mag well is sightly slanted on the M4 where the 416 is more straight. Pmags will hit the lowered part on the 416 magwell and usually fail to lock in. I was able to fix this on my G&G 416 by dremeling the front of the magwell a bit.

As for the VFC 416, you probably need to file the sides of the magwell so they'll drop free. I'd highly suggest separating the upper and lower and taking a file to the inside, and if you're being super paranoid, tape off the air nozzle so filings are less likely to get in your GB. Separating the upper/lower will also help stop filings from getting in the hop-up.
