Where do Semi auto only sniper rifles fit in?

Postby Mrmagoo » Sat Nov 04, 2006 1:13 am

Full auto/semi auto max out at 400, totally understandable
Bolt Action Sniper rifles max out at 550 also totally understandable
But what about semi auto sniper rifles?
can they max out at 500? The gun in question is a KJW mk.1 carbine which will be used for a mobel scout/counter sniper role. While ive never chronoed it most websites say 450fps w/.2's. Can there be a 500fps limit for semi auto guns that can not possible shoot full auto?

400 fps w/ .2 for semi and full auto. Bolt-action=550fps....so no. 400 is max for a semi-only rifle

stock, the mk1 carbines run in the high 300s. mine never chronod above 400 without modifications. as a personal project i did manage to get it up into the high 500s but it never had any semblance of accuracy, stock or upgraded. the loose barrel and terrible trigger pull mess up the consistency too badly to be considered a marksmans rifle in my opinion.

But you did make it shoot so hard the BBs occasionally burnt up in Earth's atmosphere...

well thats kinda pathetic, a semi auto only rifle should fit somewhere in between. While a bolt is only 1 shot possible, semi isnt a wall of bb's coming at you either. SO according to our rules, a TM PSG-1 Is utterly worthless.

It depends on how fast you pull the trigger.

I've got a hard time believing that a well placed shot from a PSG-1 would not cause havoc in the course of an assault. Saying that it's worthless because you can't do sniper FPS with it is a little shortsighted. I'm sure there are plenty of folks on here who can cause plenty of havoc with a PSG-1.

Most of the sniper/spotter teams around here use bolt action rifles because that's what most of the real world counterparts are doing. The purpose of a sniper/spotter team is to provide real-time information to the commander regarding enemy movements and intentions, and when necessary, strike the blow they believe will cause the most havoc. There's a reason that 99.7 per-cent of the military is just plain old infantry with rifles.
